Well, the water-skiing trip is coming up on Saturday, July 12 at Bay Springs. We'll meet at the Scout Hut at 8:00, so be sure to get there on time! This can pass off requirements for Water Sports Merit Badge.
IMPORTANT: If you did not pass the Yocona Swim Test, you cannot go water-skiing. If you did not go to Yocona this year, you can still qualify if you've earned Swimming Merit Badge. |

On July 21, we will have our Wilderness Survival campout. Each boy will have to build his own primitive shelter out of basic materials (like a tarp and some rope) and sleep under it for one night. We will be camping on the Scout Hut's lawn. This will pass off some requirements for both Camping and Wilderness Survival merit badges. (Camping is required for Eagle Scout Rank.) There are checklists for the requirements of all Eagle-required merit badges in the Scout Handbook. This could come in handy, guys! Remember to get an adult leader to sign and date it.
Well, I hope this campout goes well! I'm pretty excited about making a shelter and all. See you there! |

Here, at long last, is the Camp Yocona 2007 photo. So, so sorry about the bad quality! I will try to make it look a little better in a while, but there's something else on the site I need to do first. Meanwhile, here is the calendar:

On February 8, 2006, Scout Sunday, First Presbyterian Church celebrated 80 years of Scouting with Troop #3 of the Yocona Area Council. The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February 8, 1910 and chartered by Congress in 1916, is to provide an educational program for boys age 7 to 20, to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship and to develop physical fitness.
First Presbyterian Church received a charter for Troop #3 on July 25, 1926 with 22 boys. The first Scoutmaster was Leland Epting, with assistant scout masters Charles Long and Frank G. Carlisle. The Scout Committee was composed of R.F. Reed, W.E. Holcomb, and J.N. Berry. Troop #3 had Tom Fields as its first Eagle Scout in 1934. Troop #3 had 9 Eagle Scouts in the year 2000 for a total of 142 over the past 80 years.
We invite you to be a part of this rich tradition of scouting in Tupelo, Mississippi! |
